Welcome to Parallel Craft!

Welcome To Parallel Craft & Thank you for stopping by!

I would like to start by Introducing myself. My Name is Rebekah, I’m from the Thumb of Michigan, and I love to make things. Parallel Craft is a hobby turned small business. I’ve been around arts & crafts since early childhood, and have dabbled with different mediums over the years. Beaded Jewelry seems to where I have developed the most with over 15 years of honing my skills.

I would host jewelry making parties with my friends & give pieces away as gifts while I kept hearing “you should sell these”. So, two years ago, in 2017, I finally decided to start a small craft business. I first set out to do a ton of research and spent a year checking out stacks of books from the library. I studied art, business, crafts, history, science, & really anything that looked interesting. Being inspired by themes of art, architecture, and civics of history; becoming an ‘Artist’ seemed to be a logical conclusion. In the meantime I booked a couple small vendor spots to test the local market and that went… well, If you learn more from failure than success, then I gained a wealth of knowledge.

I had been playing with acrylic paint for a few months, exploring different techniques and trying to ‘discover my style’ (something I’m still far from finding). Civics and researching random topics is also a passion of mine so I started to look for ways to be involved in the community. Yearning to learn how to be an artist, & hoping to surround myself with like-minded creative people, I applied to be a member of a local art association in late 2018. Feeling like I had some great concept art, I took some of my paintings, crafts, & jewelry to the interview. The ideas behind my paintings sparked some interest, but it was my beaded jewelry that really received the nod of approval.

Since joining I have granted myself a title of “Artist” to add to my accomplishments and without uncertainty or wavering guilt. The experience has been well worth it. Contributing my time, breaking social barriers, and learning techniques have been areas that I really needed to work on.

What else does a rookie artist need? Well, a real website of course! Here I am, & thank you for visiting.
